Part of our complete guide: All 45 Nice Classification Classes Explained

Milk, ghee, paneer, curd, butter, and other dairy products fall under Class 29, which covers prepared foods of animal origin — dairy, meat, and preserved or processed foods generally.

Why this is a different class from bakery and snack foods

Class 29 and Class 30 are the two classes Indian food brands run into most often, and they split largely along the animal-origin versus plant/grain-origin line. Dairy products, along with meat, eggs, and preserved fruits and vegetables, sit in Class 29. Bakery items, spices, and snacks (covered in our bakery products and namkeen and snacks entries) sit in Class 30. A dairy brand expanding into a snack or bakery line under the same name would need both classes.

Where dairy brands often need a second class

A dairy company that also runs its own retail outlets or a direct-to-consumer delivery app would need Class 35 for the retail service, in addition to Class 29 for the products themselves.
