Part of our complete guide: All 45 Nice Classification Classes Explained

Handbags, wallets, and luggage fall under Class 18, which covers leather and imitation-leather goods, bags, luggage, and umbrellas.

Why this is a separate class from clothing

It's a common assumption that a fashion brand's entire product line sits in one class, but bags and wallets are classified separately from clothing (Class 25) and jewellery (Class 14), even when sold under the same brand and through the same store. A fashion label selling clothing, handbags, and jewellery is, for classification purposes, operating in three different classes at once.

Where fashion brands often need multiple classes

This is one of the more common gaps for apparel and accessories brands: registering only in Class 25 for clothing leaves handbags, wallets, and luggage sold under the same name unprotected. If the brand also runs its own retail stores or e-commerce, Class 35 typically applies too, for the retail service itself, on top of whichever product classes apply.

Material matters less than product type here — imitation leather and genuine leather goods are both covered by Class 18, so the classification doesn't change based on whether the bag is real or vegan leather.
