Part of our complete guide: All 45 Nice Classification Classes Explained

Gyms, fitness studios, and health clubs fall under Class 41, which covers education, entertainment, and sporting and cultural activities — the membership and training service itself, not any physical equipment.

Why this is separate from gym equipment

Treadmills, weight racks, benches, and other gym equipment fall under Class 28, the same class covering toys and games and general sporting goods. A fitness brand that manufactures and sells its own branded equipment, in addition to running studios, would need Class 28 for the equipment and Class 41 for the studio service — two separate classes even though both fall under the same "fitness" umbrella in everyday language.

Where fitness brands often need a second class

A gym chain selling its own supplements or activewear under the same brand needs the relevant product class (Class 5 for supplements, Class 25 for apparel) alongside Class 41. A studio offering a companion workout app or on-demand video content would need Class 9 or Class 42 for that digital product too.
